Day 12– August 1
Departed Hyde Park at our usual 7:30am time and travelled
all the way to New York .
Along the way were more mansions, West Point Academy ,
The Palisades and beautiful scenery all around. We have been noticing the water
starting to turn more brackish and the tidal currents becoming much stronger
which depending on the flow can slow us or speed us up by as much as 2 knots.
As we approached the George
Washington Bridge
we started to feel the effects of the wind and waves from the sea. It was quite
a bumpy ride to for the last 2 hours to our destination at Lincoln Harbour .
Docking was not without its challenges as the current was up to 1.5 knots as we
entered the harbour and made for a little excitement trying to adjust. As we
were at Low Low Water on this tide we found that the boat was pretty much stuck
in the mud as we tried to back into our slips, unless we were using quite a bit
of power, we simply did not move. The view from the boat is simply fantastic as
we look out across the Hudson directly at the Empire State
Building .
Had a great dinner at the Chart House, which also had a
great view of the New York
skyline.
