Day 11– July 31

Today we get to travel with no locks. Started our trip down the Hudson from Troy to Hyde Park which is the half way point to New York which was still just over 8 hours of boating.

We are seeing the large barges that travel the Hudson now, as well as the old warship, USS Slater. There are plenty of bridges all of which have more than sufficient clearance, and many old lighthouses. Bob had to make a quick doggie stop at Athens for Shadow and Apache then we continued on our way.

This area is also home to many of the mansions on the Hudson, including the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site in Hyde Park. One thing we have come to realize is that the train system runs down either side of the river, and they run all night so it’s difficult to find any place to overnight that does not have train noise.
